The missionary heart:
Cares more than some think is wise
Risks more than some think is safe
Dreams more than some think is practical
Expects more than some think is possible.

I was called not to comfort or to success but to obedience. . . . There is no joy outside of knowing Jesus and serving Him….”

Karen Watson ministry in IRAQ

These are some excerpts from the letter written by Karen Watson to her pastor before she embarked on a missionary journey to Iraq.

Born in a Christian family, Karen accepted Christ as her savior when she was going through a severe personal crisis. In church, she conducted Bible Study classes for youth and the children. When the opportunity came, she began partaking in short Gospel campaigns in El Salvador, Mexico, Macedonia, and Kosovo. Her heart began to desire for more now. Hence, Karen left her well-paying job as a Jail Officer and joined International Mission Board (IMB).

Karen sold her house and all the worldly possession and arrived in Mosul, Iraq in 2003 when America was at war with Iraqi terrorists. She began providing humanitarian aid in the war zones and used those opportunities to preach Christ’s love. She began restoring the schools which were closed because of the war and began informally teaching the children. Despite the constant threat of death from terrorists, Watson always remained lively, compassionate, and good-humored. The Christians in Iraq referred to her as ‘Tabitha’ in the Bible.

On 15th March 2002, along with three other missionaries, Watson was on her way to provide humanitarian aid. Few gunmen ambushed her vehicle and fired assault weapons resulting in her death and the other missionaries with her.

Beloved, are you trying to seek the temporary joy outside of knowing Jesus and serving Him?
