George Walker Jackson
George Walker Jackson was one of the missionaries of the ‘Disciples of Christ’ organization who served in India. He came to India in 1880 and did itinerant missionary work in the villages surrounding Benares and Jubbulpore (Jabalpur). Then he moved to Bilaspur and did evangelistic work in Harda.
During the initial days of his mission, he encountered numerous spiritual and mental struggles, but the grace of God sustained him all along.
After a short visit to England, he returned to India in 1885 and started ministering in Bilaspur and the neighboring villages. He married Isabelle Anderson in 1886, who became a worthy partner to him in his forthcoming ministry.

Together, they moved to Mungeli and established a mission station. Jackson patiently preached the Gospel on the same location in the town’s main street and spoke to everyone who stopped to listen to him. His style of preaching was plain and eloquent. He conducted Sunday classes for the children and Bible classes for the young men.
On the other hand, Isabelle worked among the women, visiting them at their homes to share the Gospel. She also operated a small dispensary in 1890 to provide medical care to the local and village tribal people. She was also a musically talented person and helped in church services.
Jackson is particularly known for his work among the ‘Satnamis,’ who were considered outcasts in that region. Satnamis did not follow any religion and were fierce tribals. Jackson courageously traveled far and wide to meet these people and earned many of them for Christ.
Despite his ill health, Jackson never once looked back after putting his hand on the plow. He returned to the ministry every time after recuperating from his illness with new strength. Along with his wife, Jackson returned to England in 1891, where he continued to preach and encourage the church for the missionary work. He left for his heavenly abode in 1924.
