Led by the Holy Spirit, they joined the Indian mission in 1927 and arrived in Jabalpur in Central India. After spending some time in language study, the couple moved to the new mission station at Kotmi in Chhattisgarh.
The people in Kotmi were primitive and uneducated, and reaching out to them with the Gospel was difficult. Even then, Herman went among them as a friend and preached Gospel.
Herman Reynolds ministry in India
Along with his wife, he pitched his tent on the outskirts of the village and visited the villagers in their homes as and when an opportunity was presented. While Herman worked among the men preaching the scriptures and teaching practical work skills, Mildred won the confidence of the women and children and taught them domestic skills.
They opened a school and a dispensary and improved the social conditions of the place. God blessed the ministry, and many were drawn towards Christ. Briefly, Herman moved to the Mungeli and carried out intense evangelistic work among the Satnami people. Later he moved back to Kotmi and continued in missionary activities.
The people who have tasted God’s love cannot sit idle. Apostle Paul says in the Bible, “For the love of Christ compels us…” Likewise, Herman, even during short furloughs in America, continuously worked for the benefit of the church. He served as a chaplain in Minnesota and encouraged the believers at the Church of America with his insightful sermons.
