Leno L. Russell biography, A significant part of the New Testament in the Bible are letters of Paul the Apostle, which even today inspires us to live a holy life. The testimonies of missionaries and their writings, particularly their letters, greatly influenced other believers to take up the missionary burden. ‘Missionary Tidings,’ a magazine that kept Christians informed about the worldwide missionary activities, has influenced many believers to choose the path of mission work. One among those missionaries was Leno Russell.

Born on a farm near Carbon Hill, Ohio, Leno Russel had a humble beginning. She studied at a very small school and later came back to teach at the same school. She earned her expenses to study at Hiram College, from where she graduated in 1914. When a child, she had decided that she would go to India with Christ’s message.
Her passion for the mission came from reading the ‘Missionary Tidings’ magazine. Hence, she went to the College of Missions for ministerial training.

In 1915, Leno Russell reached India and spent some time learning the language. In 1916, she was sent to Kulpahar, where she actively ministered among the women. She and few other women visited daily the local women’s houses and preached to them the Gospel. Later she spent several years in Bina, engaged in evangelistic work for women and administrating schools for both boys and girls. She spent the last four years of ministry in Damoh doing extensive evangelistic and educational work.
Upon her return to the United States in 1928, Leno Russell spent few years attaining theological degrees. Although her heart desired to get back to the mission field, her health did not permit it. So, while in America, she was busy teaching and preaching among the students and the women. She had a special burden for the girl child convicts and made gospel efforts to set them on the righteous path by teaching them the Bible. There she found joy in helping girls to find the Eternal Life.
