Adoniram Judson Gordon biography, was an American preacher, author, composer, and enabler of missions worldwide. Born in a devout Christian family, Gordon was named after Adoniram Judson, a Baptist missionary to Burma. At the age of 15, he was born again. A year later, he openly admitted his desire to prepare for Christian ministry at a church meeting. After his formal education at Brown University and theological education at Newton Theological Institution, he was ordinated as the Jamaica Plain Baptist Church pastor near Boston.

Later, he went to serve in Clarendon Street Baptist Church in Boston. The Clarendon church was completely unsympathetic towards the Gospel ministry and was interested in extravagant choirs and elaborate architecture.

Initially, it was difficult for Gordon to steer the church in the right direction, and he was several times disappointed. Prayerfully Gordon invited D. L. Moody to conduct spiritual meetings in Boston, and that’s how revival got ignited in Clarendon church and the whole of Boston.

The church saw a paradigm shift from interest in worldly things to earning souls for Christ. Gordon inspired the church to support the foreign missionaries with a vision for Global missions through both prayers and finances.

Gordon was a regular speaker at Moody’s spiritual conferences and traveled worldwide with the passion of spreading the Gospel. His sermons mainly focused on the need of the workers to reap the plentiful harvest. Hundreds of young people used to respond to his powerful altar calls. So, in 1889, he founded the Boston Missionary Training Institute (later Gordon College) with an aim to train these future missionaries.

The college brought forth thousands of young ministers who have served and are serving missions in many countries. Apart from being a preacher, Gordon was a wonderful author and composer. Despite his hectic ministry worldwide, he continued to shepherd his sheep in Clarendon church patiently until his home call in 1895.
