David Wilkerson biography, David Ray Wilkerson was born into a family of Pentecostal preachers in Pennsylvania. Baptized at a very young age, Wilkerson began to preach the Word of God at 14. After his ordination in 1952, he served as a pastor in Scottsdale and Philipsburg in Pennsylvania.

In 1958, after reading about a murder trial in New York involving a teenage gang, Wilkerson felt a divine call to help such gang members and drug addicts in New York.

At the age of 28, he gave up his comfortable church life and moved to New York. There, he preached on the streets, organized crusades, and ran a house where teens could come to get off drugs. Dozens of gang members traded their weapons for Bibles and came forward to accept Christ as their Savior.

One of them was Nicky Cruz, the leader of the ‘Mau Mau’ gang. One day, Wilkerson met Nicky and shared the Gospel with him. Nicky spat in his face and threatened to kill him if ever he approached him again. But, Wilkerson replied, “You could cut me up into 1000 pieces and lay them in the street.

Every piece will still love you.” These words haunted Nicky haunted for a long time. Finally, at one of the meetings of Wilkerson, Nicky gave surrendered his life to Jesus. After that, Nicky led several of his gang members to Christ.

Wilkerson expanded his ministry in America, Europe, and Asia by founding several missions for the spiritual and physical well-being of the youth and adults. He founded the Youth Crusades in 1967, which primarily worked to prevent young people from getting involved with drugs, alcohol, and violence.

Wilkerson was also the founder of the Times Square Church, where he delivered some of the powerful Biblical messages to encourage righteous living and complete reliance on God. Wilkerson, a fearless evangelist, compassionate pastor, and fiery preacher, went to be with Lord in 2011.
