Apollos biography

Apollos biography, a co-worker of Apostle Paul, was instrumental in developing the early churches in Ephesus and Corinth. Born a Jew, Apollos had a deep understanding of the scriptures and eloquently preached the word of God. The Bible says he was “instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord” (Acts 18:25).

He came to Ephesus in A.D. 54 and taught boldly the things concerning Jesus in the synagogues. However, his knowledge of the Gospel was incomplete because he knew only the baptism of John. Hence, therein Ephesus, Aquila, and Priscilla, friends of Apostle Paul, took him in and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

Now, with the complete knowledge of the Gospel, Apollos started preaching with much spiritual fervor. Encouraged by the brethren in Ephesus, Apollos went to Achaia for the ministry.

Apollos ministry in Ephesus and Corinth

There he bravely faced the Jews and held public debates regarding the divinity of Jesus. He clearly explained to them the scriptures and made them understood that Jesus is the promised Messiah. He was also of great help to the believers in Achaia.

Later, Apollos went to Corinth and labored among the Christians there. With outstanding spiritual gifts, he ministered among the Christians who were brought to the Lord by Apostle Paul. While Paul was the evangelist and church planter, Apollos was the teacher who followed and watered the seed Paul had planted. His ministry in Corinth highlights the need for follow-up ministry among the people in whom the Gospel seeds have been sown.

Paul considered Apollos to be a valuable co-laborer and friend. He encouraged Apollos in his ministry at Corinth and Crete. Although the history doesn’t talk much about Apollo’s later days, we know this much that he labored in Lord’s Vineyard, aiding the ministry of the apostles and faithfully building up the church.
