Ada Lee
Ada Lee, “My thoughts are not your thoughts… For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Isaiah 55:8, Jeremiah 29:11). We can see these words being demonstrated in the life of Ada Lee.

She raised her children in Godly fear and consecrated them to serve God and whose prayers had always been to see her children drawing the multitudes towards God. Were her prayers answered?
Twenty years old, Ada Hildegarde Jones Lee stepped on the Indian soil and served among the Bengal women for five years. In 1881, she married David Hiram Lee, who was also an American missionary to India.

In Calcutta, together, they established schools, trained people to serve God, and became a refuge for the poor children and victims of social evils like child marriages and prostitution. In 1899, a deep sorrow struck the missionaries. Six of their children, studying in Darjeeling, faced death in a landslide. Their son Wilber, who survived, gave the account of that disaster while on his hospital bed.
He said that God gave them immense strength to face death, and they were not afraid because they were sure of entering Heaven. After few days of suffering, Wilber also joined his siblings in Heaven. Losing her children brought Ada a great spiritual struggle. Satan attacked her faith, saying that God did not answer her prayers.
She sought strength and help from God to overcome the tempter. When she was told how their children’s testimonies were being preached throughout America and how their exemplary lives were directing the multitudes towards God, she thanked God for His wonderful plans and for answering her prayers in His way!
The missionary couple continued to serve in India till their last breath. The fruit of their sacrificial service is still before our eyes in the form of “The Lee Memorial Mission” in Calcutta.
