He was born into a royal family in the Kingdom of Majorca. He was an intelligent and well-educated person but lead an empty life with no significant purpose. As a young man, he was occupied with adulterous thoughts and lifestyle.

One summer evening he suddenly had a powerful vision of Jesus on the cross, blood trickling from his hands and feet. He was deeply moved and disturbed by the vision. A few days later, he again saw the vision and heard the voice “Ramon, follow me.

” Giving in to his inner desperation, he attended a church and listened to the bishop who was describing the conversion of Saint Francis. That day he gave his heart to the Lord and gave up his family and material possessions to serve God.

Ramon Llull ministry in Europe and Africa

Spending much time in prayer, Ramon realized that God is calling him to evangelize the Muslims. He learned Arabic and preached Gospel to Muslims in Majorca. He rationally explained the Christian faith and led many to Christ. He traveled to Rome and Paris and condemned the misguided preaching in the Church. He established training schools for missionaries and specially guided them to serve in Muslim countries. He was a prolific writer and authored around 290 books on theology, mathematics, and philosophy.

At the age of 61, he traveled to Tunisia where he preached the gospel and Biblical theology to the Islamic world. There he was imprisoned and then deported with the threat that should he return he would be stoned. However, not disobedient to his call, he went to Tunisia twice. The last time was when he was 80 years old. As he was preaching in an open market, the religious fanatics dragged him out of the town and stoned him to death.

Beloved, are you sensitive to the voice of God and His guidance?
